The Health Benefits of Cinnamon
By Umar Sallau, MD | Novermber 11, 2022
Herbs are mentioned in Ar-Rahman as part of what Allah, the Merciful Healer, provided us from His bounty for our nourishment out of pure mercy (Qur'an 55:12). An-najm, which is referenced in verse 6, may refer to a star if related to the word Al-qamar (the moon), but it may also refer to a plant if connected to the word Ashajar (the next word, which refers to a tree).
Imam As-Suyuti mentions cinnamon and some of its health advantages in his book Prophetic Medicine. Since ancient times, traditional medicine has utilized the therapeutic advantages of cinnamon. Studies have indicated that cinnamon is useful in preventing or treating type 2 diabetes and can help manage blood sugar levels.
The use of cinnamon extract can assist in increasing the production of insulin and reducing blood sugar peaks. Cinnamon is a great spice for those wanting to prevent or manage diabetes naturally because it is also believed to aid with weight loss.
