Turmeric is a powerful spice in the ginger family (Zingiberaceae), and ginger is mentioned in Qur’an 76:17. In his book, Prophetic Medicine, Imam Ibn Qayyim mentions a Hadith narrated by Abu Nu’aym from Abu Sa’id Al-Kudhri that he was among the recipients of ginger from the Noble Prophet Muhammad (on whom be peace).

The effectiveness of turmeric and the ginger family is supported by numerous high-quality studies. For the body and brain, turmeric has several advantages. In fact, turmeric has been extensively researched for its wide range of health advantages.

Curcuminoids are three naturally occurring compounds found in turmeric. Turmeric's primary active component, curcumin, is a potent anti-inflammatory. Numerous compounds thought to be important in inflammation can be suppressed by curcumin. One of the mechanisms thought to underlie aging and a number of diseases is oxidative damage. Brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), which is important for promoting the health of neurons, may be elevated in the brain by curcumin. As a helpful herb in the treatment of cancer, curcumin has been explored. Given its effects on BDNF levels, it may also aid in enhancing memory and concentration.

Heart disease may be influenced by inflammation and oxidation, which can be reduced by curcumin. Additionally, it has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. The degenerative progression of Alzheimer's disease has been demonstrated to be improved in a number of ways by curcumin, which has been shown to be able to pass the blood-brain barrier. Inflammation of the joints is a typical feature of arthritis. Studies show that curcumin can be very helpful as anti-inflammatory herb in the treatent of some forms of arthritis.
